Characters on Exact Categories

Abstract:
We introduce characters on exact categories, generalizing the notion of characters on abelian categories. It is shown that every such character is a unique sum of irreducible characters. Moreover, the irreducible characters correspond to pure-injective objects whose relative "injectivity space" is endofinite.
